TITLE: EL FESTIN

Aerosol, House Paint on Brick Wall— Nicollet and 26th// Eat Street

18 x 50 feet

2022

This mural represents the history of Eat Street and of Creation. Because of the various cultures that make up the infamous street, I decided to represent a “flag” colorful and bright that embodies all cultures, and what we consume: food. Since the beginning of life, civilizations have praised the sun, and it is the source of our nutrients, what grows our crops, makes our livestock grow, and enables us to flourish. This mural celebrates the culinary arts and shows the structured but “fluid” nature of cooking. One may follow a recipe for a dish, but what we create as individuals will always be different and unique from our neighbors.

During Ramadan, the sun is also respected with its presence— fasting ends at sundown upon its exit to the other side of the world. This was a community effort as I interviewed local chefs to be represented in the mural. I also had a cohort of student artists from MCAD (Minneapolis College of Art and Design) to keep me company and to work alongside me in its creation.
